Wal-Mart to Sell iPhones in December
Two Apple iPhone models will be sold at Wal-Mart stores in December, and employees are now being trained to sell the device, according to sources in various California Wal-Mart stores, Bloomberg reports.
Wal-Mart would become the second retail chain to carry iPhones, after Best Buy became the first in September.
Wal-Mart may have the phones in stock the day before Christmas, according to one source, although another cited Dec. 15, whereas two others mentioned the period between Christmas and New Year.
Rumors of a $99 iPhone to go on sale at Wal-Mart after Christmas began circulating in November.
“A $99, Apple-branded cell phone is inevitable,” Shaw Wu, an analyst for Kaufman Brothers in San Francisco, is quoted as having said.
“One of the key things Apple needs to do to drive broader iPhone adoption is to build a more complete product line” and the way to do so would be to have low-end, mid-range, and high-end phones, he is cited as having written earlier this month.
